People these days keep switching between roles frequently and also often go back to their former employer. There are also often roles where there is a scarcity for a particular skillset and sometimes an abundance. Can we see a future where people arent tied completely to their company and freelance for other companies and are essentially like mercenaries and not really full time employees. Applicable for all roles. This would remove significant hiring and layoff costs and employees would get varied work ex and have some project or work through the year. Say a company currently having 500 employees could possibly do with 200 full time and 300 contract employees rotated through the year. Just thinking out loud, maybe such a concept exists but possibly not as prevalent and across roles as it can take shape to be. Not talking about the regular freelancing or even 3rd party outsourcing of some project work(generally in design or tech), but very much staple roles in areas like sales or products or marketing. Do you think the future is headed there and if so what do you think it could look like? Not able to articulate but hoping for a discussion to see what kind of freelancing can happen under such a concept and how.
